Brick Calculator

Estimating the number of bricks for a wall requires knowing the wall area, the face dimensions of each brick, the mortar joint thickness, and an allowance for waste (cuts, breakage). This calculator computes the exact count so you can order materials with confidence.

The formula divides the wall area by the area of one brick plus its mortar joints, then adds a waste percentage. Standard mortar joints are 10 mm, and typical waste ranges from 5 % to 15 % depending on the pattern and cutting involved.

How it works

Bricks = Wall Area Γ· ((Brick Length + Mortar) Γ— (Brick Height + Mortar)) Γ— (1 + Waste%). All brick dimensions are in cm, mortar in mm (converted to m for area calculation).

Use cases

  • Estimating bricks for a new wall or fence
  • Budgeting masonry material costs
  • Planning delivery quantities for construction sites
  • Comparing brick sizes for different wall patterns
