Density Converter
Density is the mass of a substance per unit volume and is one of the most fundamental properties in physics, chemistry, and engineering. This converter lets you instantly translate density values between kg/m³, g/cm³, g/mL, lb/ft³, and lb/in³ using an exact factor table referenced to kg/m³ as the base unit.
Whether you are working with material data sheets, fluid dynamics calculations, or simply need to compare densities across measurement systems, this tool provides bidirectional conversion with full precision — change either field and the other updates automatically.
How it works
All units are converted via a constant factor relative to kg/m³: 1 g/cm³ = 1 g/mL = 1000 kg/m³; 1 lb/ft³ ≈ 16.018463 kg/m³; 1 lb/in³ ≈ 27 679.904 kg/m³. To convert from unit A to unit B: value_B = value_A × (factor_A / factor_B).
Use cases
- Converting material densities from metric to imperial for engineering calculations
- Comparing fluid densities in chemistry and chemical engineering
- Checking material data sheets that use different unit systems
- Calculating buoyancy and hydrostatics in physics and naval engineering
- Verifying density values when working with 3D printing filament or casting materials
