Final Grade Calculator
Knowing what score you need on your final exam removes the guesswork from end-of-semester studying. Enter your current grade, the weight the final exam carries in your overall course grade, and the minimum grade you want to finish with — the calculator instantly tells you the exact score required on the final.
The result also includes a feasibility check: if the required score exceeds 100%, the target is mathematically impossible given your current standing; if it falls at or below 0%, you have already secured your desired grade and any score on the final will suffice. Use this tool to prioritise study time, set realistic expectations, and reduce pre-exam stress.
How it works
Required Final Score = (Desired Grade − (1 − Final Weight) × Current Grade) ÷ Final Weight. All values are expressed as percentages (0–100). Rearranged from the weighted average formula: Final Grade = (1 − w) × Current + w × Final, where w = Final Exam Weight / 100.
Use cases
- Calculating the minimum score needed on a final exam to pass a course
- Setting study priorities when time is limited before finals week
- Determining whether a target GPA is still reachable at the end of a semester
- Evaluating whether it is worth attempting extra credit before the final
- Checking if a student has already locked in a passing grade before taking the exam
